Whether we admit this reality or not, each one of us is bewitched, each one of us is possessed and under the influence of our own very personalized ghosts. Our Ghosts are our own unfounded, untested ideas, concepts and theories. We put on the garbs of self-serving logic and reasoning to ward-off the opponents but factually, vehemently defending, protecting and promoting our Ghosts, as we believe in our Ghosts and subconsciously want to grow and nurture them, without re-examining the realities, without testing the facts in broad day light. Half-cooked and half-baked knowledge is the deadliest Ghost, haunting majority of people living today on the surface of the earth. So, each one of us needs his own Exorcist be it on 31 October or any other date.
Celts (who lived 2000 years ago in and around Ireland, UK, Northern France etc.), believed that on October 31, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On this night, it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. So, the Celts would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.
By 43 A.D., the Roman Empire had conquered the majority of Celtic territories. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, All-hallows or All-hallowmas (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints’ Day), and later Halloween.
Borrowing from European traditions, Americans began to dress up in costumes and go house to house asking for food or money, a practice that eventually became today’s “trick-or-treat” tradition. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating (or the guising and souling), attending Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, as well as watching horror films. In many parts of the world, the Christian religious observances of All Hallows’ Eve, including attending church services and lighting candles on the graves of the dead, remain popular, although elsewhere now it is a more of a commercial and secular celebration.
But the question remains, how to ward off the deadliest of all Ghosts. Humanity has evolved over time and has responded by developing Scientific Research Method on Halloween, which takes us out of mere assumptions (without basis/moorings) and gives near perfect answers to different queries. This method of Scientific Research / Reasoning is the EXORCIST, now the mainstay of our knowledge today in all fields of human endeavor, be it pure sciences (like physics, chemistry, geology, biology, medicine, engineering, IT, robotics, etc.), or social sciences (like economics, sociology, psychology, linguistics, marketing, etc.). Even the Marketing Agencies (like www.thedynamics.biz etc.) take pride in applying the latest scientific developments in the services they offer.
Marketing is the art and science of serving the community through developing, offering, promoting, and providing different services and products to the distinct groups of masses (by evolving and satisfying their potential or existing needs). To determine the potential and existing needs and their levels of satisfaction/dissatisfaction, along with their reasons/touchpoints, Surveys are considered as one of the most popular methods. For collecting the information about the thoughts, ideas, images, and practices/reactions of different groups of Customers to competing marketing stimuli, paper, and pen face to face interviews was the method. It was marred due to the biases created by Interviewers / Enumerators, the cost of effort involved, and the time is taken. With the advent of technology, it is fast being replaced by Online Research Panels ( like one at https://www.drtsolutionz.com, etc.). These are completely FREE; no expense incurred by the respondents, no involvement of intermediaries; rather all those who fill in the Surveys, at their own convenience, sitting at their homes/ libraries, etc., are suitably rewarded for their time and efforts by the marketers/panel companies. So, this method is fast developing as one of the main From Home jobs for earning money off-line. This is the latest and very effective Exorcist, to shun and cast-off the Devils of unfounded assumptions/biases about the thinking and practices of different sections of our society.
